Now I know that almost everyone has had Chex Mix and the traditional Chex Mix recipe is on the box of every Chex cereal along with a billion other variations. But, I will proudly admit I am biased of this recipe because it was my father’s recipe. He embellished the original and it has been a snacking staple in our family ever since. It made its way out for Super Bowl this last Sunday and it was just as good as ever. I will admit it is more decadent and not nearly as healthy as the original but oh is it worth every sinful bite!
Ingredients:
Equal parts (approximately 3 cups each):
Rice Square Cereal
Corn Square Cereal
Oat Square Cereal
Corn Pops Cereal
approximately 2 cups Mini Pretzels
approximately 1 1/2 cups Cashews
4 tablespoons Worcestershire
2 sticks melted butter
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon seasoned salt
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 250 degrees.
2. Mix rice square cereal, corn square cereal, oat square cereal, corn pops cereal, mini pretzels, and cashews together in a large pan such as a turkey roasting pan or lasagna pan.
3. Melt butter. Mix Worcestershire, garlic powder, onion powder and seasoning salt into melted butter and pour over cereal mixture. Mix until all pieces are covered. Tip: I find it is best to pour half the butter mixture over the cereal mixture and mix them together, making sure to pull the bottom pieces up as I mix. I then repeat with the remaining butter mixture.
4. Place in oven and bake for one hour. Stir thoroughly every 15 minutes to prevent burning. Remove from oven. Allow to cool and dive in.
CAUTION: The above recipe is know to be addictive and may cause multiple trips to the Chex Mix container and repeat munching, and continuous sounds of yummy satisfaction.
This is fabulous!
