I am willing to bet that there are few parents out there who just plain don’t like documenting their children’s lives. Between traditional photos – digital prints – online scrapbooking, instagram, Facebook and so much more, I feel fairly confident in that bet. And that’s awesome that we can capture our memories. Even better, we can do that for our children too.
A few years ago, I made my stepson a photo album that went from the day he was born to his eighth grade year. There were two or four pages per year depending on the events of the year. When he graduates, I will give him the remaining pages of his high school years for one of his graduation presents (and yes he knows). But it got me thinking. That’s super cool and for those that have the time, that’s great. But not every parent has that time.
I remember going through my old school photos and there were a whole bunch of photos, the same photo, in one of those traditional school year photo envelopes and a whole lot of them. Frankly, they were a little boring. But I had them.
As I said, it got me thinking. Instead of a book of life, I thought wouldn’t it be cool to give a child at their senior year Christmas or graduation an album of their school years. As my stepson starts his senior year, as my stepdaughter is more actively involved in our lives, and as my husband and I start to expand our family, I recognize that busy is going to get even busier. If you are like me, you may not be able to do something huge but creating a scrapbook page for pre-k through senior year, one a year, isn’t that time consuming and is a cool way to turn boring school photos into something awesome and memorable.
I did some mock ups as examples of what I might do when my future kids hit pre-school. In the end, it doesn’t matter if your scrapbooking is elaborate or simple. As the old adage says, it is the sentiment and thought that counts. And at the very least, you can use your back to school pre-k through senior scrapbook as really good “blackmail” along with their naked baby photos when their future significant other shows up. Just kidding.
Until next post!
