(Simple) Frosted Grinch-Themed Christmas Brownies

Brownies are one of my favorite holiday foods because they are so easy to make and they are always a hit with my family and friends. I love to make a big batch of brownies and then cut them into small squares so that everyone can have their own little treat. They’re the perfect dessert for any holiday gathering (or to eat at home in front of the television).

Around here, the holidays aren’t complete without at least one movie night featuring The Grinch That Stole Christmas. It is a classic, isn’t it? Please don’t make me choose between Elf and The Grinch. I just can’t do it!

These brownies are super festive and make the perfect treat to enjoy while watching The Grinch. They are rich, chocolatey, and have a sweet green topping that is festive enough to warm your heart on the coldest snowy nights. If there is anything better than a chocolate brownie, it’s a green frosted chocolate Grinch Christmas brownie! Wow, that is literally a mouthful.

A few tips for making the perfect brownies:

  • Be sure to use a good quality brownie mix. I’ve experimented with a lot of different brands and my favorite is still Ghirardelli.
  • Line your pan with parchment paper before you pour in the brownie batter. This will make it a lot easier to remove the brownies from the pan once they are baked. I prefer doing this over greasing the pan.
  • Don’t overbake your brownies. You want them to be nice and fudgy, not dry and crumbly. I know it’s easy to get caught up in a movie and completely forget. So, set a timer!
  • Allow the brownies to cool completely before you add the green frosting. If you try to frost them while they are still warm, the frosting will melt and run all over the place. I know, it’s really tempting to jump right in! But trust me, it’s worth the wait.

That’s all there is to making these simple festive brownies. Around Halloween, I like to change this recipe up and add spooky googly eyes (think.. monster brownies!). It’s a lot of fun to play with different colors and sprinkles depending on the holiday.

Let me know if you try these brownies or any different variations you have made. Happy baking!
